Jane Doe

Episode Slant

Present day: Precinct:

Detective Knight has slipped into reminiscence at a remark from his Captain, Joe Reese. It concerns Manning, a suspect in a current serial killing. Reese knows him from the past and thinks he did it.

JR: [addressing Knight and Vetter] "I know what he is. He's the single most vile and racist individual I have ever come across in all my years as a cop. I don't care how much you think you've been around. Maybe you've seen some sick people. But I'm telling you, you've never encountered evil like this guy."

Nick looks off.

Fade out:

Heard is the sound of a train. Soon seen is the engine, the locomotive's wheels charging down the rails. It's evening. A human's cough breaks into the clacking sound. The scene cuts to a dozing LaCroix. He slowly opens his eyes at the persistent hacking.

Pan back:

We find our tasty twosome (Vamp Man and his sidekick Blond Hormone Boy) seated next to each other in the rocking car. A look of disgust crosses VM's face. He rolls his eyes. BHB glances over to him in sympathy and gestures a half-hearted apology with his hand. Nicholas then turns to gaze out his window, at the blackness rushing past.

A pair are sitting across from them. The coughing man faces Nick and a paper reading soldier is opposite LaCroix.

LC bends forward to place his fisted left hand on the arm-rest separating the strangers. Doing his best to remain composed, he leans in closely to speak to the ailing fellow.

LC: [in German? Romanian?] (What! No French?! <g> I was getting used to...French ;-[). ) "Excuse me, friend. [pause] Pardon me but could you do us all a favor? [thump thump, thump thump, etc...] Get Lost." [enunciating each word slowly]

The man rises and leaves quickly. His departure is awkward because of the crowdedness of the train.

Less than satisfied with the whole situation LaCroix speaks to his son, not looking at him.

LC: [exhaling in exasperation] "Were these the best accommodations that you could find, Nicholas?"

N: [terse, glaring. after a pause] "These were the only accommodations I could find...given the circumstances."

The young military man lowers his paper to address Lacroix.

AH: [in German] "Thank you. I don't know how you persuaded him to leave...but I'm happy he is gone. [Nick looks to LC, then down] [in English] Stinking Gypsies. Why they let them ride the same train with good soldiers is beyond me." [LaCroix smiles]

LC: "It was my pleasure...corporal." [he grins again]

Nicholas eyes the stranger warily.

AH: "You two, you're obviously men of refinement and intellegence. Not Gypsies huh?"

Our tasty twosome glance at each other, grinning at the humor of the remark.

LC: "No. No, we are definitely not...'Gypsies'." [smiling broadly]

After misc. bits of present day story, we return to the...

Precinct:

Captain Reese relays to Knight on how he almost killed Manning once. Long before all the current murders.

JR: "You don't know what it is like Nick. Living with the idea you could've changed history but you didn't."

Knight looks off to fade once more into Flash Back mode:

Nicholas, none to happily, is walking as gingerly as possible through all the mortals that clutter the aisle. He turns to glance back towards the direction of his seat.

LaCroix is intensely involved in conversation with the German. The soldier is sketching LC in charcoal as he listens. (Walking "O" appears quite unconcerned or unaware that his 'significant other' has left, so enthralled is he in his new 'toy'.)

LC: "You're a man after my tired heart, young corporal." (Ooo...do ya think Nikkie mighta caught that drift? Uncle can be such a cruel and thoughtless bastard can't he? But wait! That's why so many of us love him, right? ;-[) !) "I can't remember when I met someone in passing, with whom I've had so much...seemingly, in common." [LaCroix smiles in approval] (Oh really, Paled One? Do tell...<g>)

AH: [still drawing intently] "We see eye to eye on many issues. Yes? You share my concerns for the future of this broken country. [looking up from his work] I can see that."

Nicholas opens the rear exit of the car. He glances back again. (Waiting for those mental threads from your master? That he might be missing you, care that you're gone? Give it up, Hormonal One. He's the one who's...gone ;-[)!)

LaCroix still grins at the mortal.

AH: [sketching yet] "Wait and see. The foreigners will gorge on the spoils of this fruitless war. Our fatherland itself. [LC is enjoying the passion in this man] Divided and governed by some outside alliance. They're circling like carrion birds even as we crawl home in defeat. Their 'will' be done, and not ours eh? [he tears the picture free from his pad and hands it to LaCroix] It's a poor likeness. But...ah, you afforded me the practice and I thank you."

LC folds the drawing. He is amused.

AH: "If you care, as you seem to, about this country...[handing LaCroix a pamphlet] join us."

LC: [looking over the cover of the brochure, not opening it] "Thank you. [he hands the leaflet back] But I have my own affiliations that are distinctly 'apolitical' in nature. [the other is disappointed as he re-takes the paper.] I am as it were, how should I say, above such concerns."

AH: [his sight narrows briefly] "Then I must be honest with you, friend. And tell you that you exemplify what is so very wrong with this society."

LC: [very amused now, he almost laughs] "Really? And how would you go about affecting the solution? Prey tell, young war hero. You alone against the world."

AH: [deadly serious] "Very simply. The cause consumes me. And I shall make it my struggle."

LaCroix remains unmoving, with a small smirk on his lips. But he blinks briefly as he is taken aback by the vehemence and determination felt coming from the young man.

Nicholas stands outside, at the back of the passenger compartment. A look mixed of melancholy, animosity and abandonment crosses his features. He draws deeply from the flask he has produced from inside his coat. He looks towards the interior a last time. (Jealous, dear boy? Driven to drink? You don't take well to being ignored, do you? Maybe if you didn't play 'hard to get' so often...;-[) !)

Cut out:

Misc. present day story again.

Fade back to the train. Its night vigil continues:

Nicholas has rejoined the two. He sits stiffly (No, not like that! You guys...<g>) next to his master. The corporal rises to leave.

AH: "You truly do." (Wait a minute, did I miss something here? Yaaah! I'm lost! Maybe I misheard the line, a half dozen times. I don't have CC on this TV.) Anyway...the soldier goes. Pan back to our favorite pair:

LC: "He's a natural, isn't he?" [not looking to his son. son turns to him frowning]

Nick is confused and very unhappy with these events.

LC: [eyes closed] "I know that you sense something about him. [opening them] As I do." (I can just imagine what Peroxide Top senses. Plus, I've read plenty of supposition about the weird sexual problems Hitler had.)

NK is more agitated now, his lips are tightly pursed. He inhales sharply.

LC: "There's something special about him."

N: [a cutting retort] "I didn't notice anything." (Tut, tut. LaCroix can read you like a book Thickness!)

LC: [mild exasperation] "Oh Nicholas...you know how closely I'm attuned to your sensibilities, and you to mine..." (Duh! Ummm, Orgasmic One... you need to get a klew. Why do you think Nikkie is sooo pissed here? ;-[))

N: [with a grimace, he sharply remarks in return] "You're going to take him aren't you?" (I like how Nick doesn't say <bring him across>. 'Take' him...how I wonder <g>? I guess so does Blondness...<wg>)

LC: [that LaCroix smirk again] "I had pondered the logistics of bringing him across. Making him one of the 'entourage', as it were. [a look of disdain from Nick] [a small chuckle from the elder] And now you're asking yourself questions. What is it about him? What do I feel in him? But you already know the answers."

LaCroix has yet to look at his Nicholas during all this.

N: [spitting loathing, as he talks to his consort] "There is tremendous anger in him, [looking off] resentment...darkness."

LC: [he finally turns to his son, a gleam in his eye] "It's called hatred, Nicholas. And his blood fairly boils with it. He is evil in his heart. Beyond his own comprehension. [Nick is aghast at the the enjoyment he knows LaCroix has received from his time spent getting to know the German lad] That kind of energy might be good for both of us." [light taunting tone] (Yaaah!? "O"meister, a suggestion of 'sharing' the corporal with Nikkie? Ooo...and that look on your face... You are so delightfully depraved ;-[) YUM!) "It would be interesting." [turning to Nick, grinning]

N: [unamused] "That kind of energy I do not need. Do what you will. But don't amplify him, don't make him one of us. [a look of distaste exudes from Nick] Kill him, have done with it." (Read: <Do what I know you will do...'play' with him, then kill him. But have done with it. ;-[)>)

LaCroix, taking in the words of his companion, just sits back and grins wider.

Fade out:

I have way too much fun with these, I swear. But that's why I do them ;-[)! Believe me it's not *just* for you guys.
